There are two routes to follow if you want to improve your bridge skills. If possible both should be followed concurrently so that the one reinforces the other which will enable you to get a more rapid improvement in your game. |
||
|
ROUTE 1: Enrol for lessons with a qualified bridge teacher. Note that a Bridge teacher worthy of consideration will have been trained, observed in action and tested by one of the U.K. Bridge Unions and certificated as a qualified Bridge teacher. Trying to learn Bridge through an unqualified person may result in a poor grasp of the fundamentals of the game and the acquisition of bad habits. The advantages of attending such lessons are that you get face to face tuition and provided the class is not too large, you are able to ask questions. Qualified Bridge teachers organise their lessons either privately or via the local adult education authority. Lessons via the education authority require your attendance on a regular basis at the same time each week whereas private lessons can be more flexible and be arranged to accomodate the needs of the students. ROUTE 2: Play Bridge at a club which caters for less experienced players. This is an ideal way to improve your Bridge with other players of a similar standard. These clubs will have a relaxed atmosphere and be in no way intimidating like many of the more established Bridge clubs. You will also meet new friends and be able to put into practice any lessons you may have had and of course you will improve your game without stress.
