There are two routes to follow if you want to learn how to play bridge properly. Although both methods are designed to be complete in themselves, it is possible to use both routes simultaneously so that the one reinforces the other. |
ROUTE 1: Learn to play at home using an appropriate home study course This method will appeal to those who would prefer to learn at their own pace at times convenient to fit in with their other commitments. It is also suitable for those who would find it difficult to get to a formal class which might be at an inconvenient time or awkward to get to or for those who are unable to commit themselves to a regular time each week. For details of a home study beginner's course please click here.

ROUTE 2: Enrol for lessons with a qualified bridge teacher. Note that a Bridge teacher worthy of consideration will have been trained, observed in action and tested by one of the U.K. Bridge Unions and certificated as a qualified Bridge teacher. Trying to learn Bridge through an unqualified person may result in a poor grasp of the fundamentals of the game and the acquisition of bad habits. The advantages of attending such lessons are that you get face to face tuition and provided the class is not too large, you are able to ask questions. Formal lessons will suit those who can attend at the same time each week on a regular basis. Qualified Bridge teachers organise their lessons either privately or via the local adult education authority. For details of qualified Bridge teachers in your area please click here.
